The 2019 Hand-In-Hand Insurance company sponsored Under-19 Inter-County tournament will bowl off today at two venues with the Select Under-17 once again featuring in the tournament as preparation for the Regional competition.
As is customary, those selected for the Select Under-17 are those shortlisted to prepare to represent Guyana at the regional U17 competition. Young Under-15 batsman, Mavindra Dindyal has broken into the side which also includes former national under-15 captain Zeynul Ramsammy and Matthew Nandu.
However, surprisingly, arguably one of the fastest youth bowler around, Trevon Charles, all-rounder, Jonathan Yearwood and wicket-keeper Shamar Yearwood are all missing from the squad.
Charles, a standby last year, played two matches in the Under-17 Inter-County tournament, taking three wickets at an economy rate of just two. Since then he has featured in the Georgetown Cricket Association Under-19 tournament where he has taken 12 wickets.
Rampersaud, has scored 56 runs in his two innings including a top score of 41 and has taken six wickets at an economy rate of 2.15 with his off-spin and a best of 4-17 that earned him a man of the match performance. The two-format tournament will open with the three-day version as defending champions, Berbice take on the Select Under-17 at the Everest Cricket Club while Demerara will go up against Essequibo at the Georgetown Cricket Club from 09:00 hrs.
Round two will begin on May 4 and will see Berbice and Essequibo battling at Wales Community Development Center as Demerara and Select Under-17 lock horns at GCC.
The final round will commence on May 8 with GCC hosting Demerara versus Berbice as Everest hosts Select Under-17 versus Essequibo.
The 50 overs format will bowl off on May 13 with cricket lovers in Berbice witnessing their home side take on Essequibo at Albion while Demerara and Select Under-17 go head-to-head at Everest.
In the penultimate round on May 15, Demerara will face Berbice at Everest and Essequibo will go up against Select Under-17 at GCC.
On May 17, the final round will bowl off with Demerara and Essequibo facing each other at GCC and Berbice matching shots with the Select Under-17 at Everest before the top two teams face each other in the final at GCC on May 19.
While Demerara and the Select Under-17 sides are yet to be named, Essequibo will be led by Kevin Christian.
West Indies Under-19 prospect, Kevlon Anderson will lead a Berbice side that features seven players with national youth experience.
