TORONTO, (Reuters) – The Global T20 Canada league said yesterday it will kick off its second season in July with a clash between the defending champion Vancouver Knights and Toronto Nationals.
The 22-match tournament will be held in Toronto from July 25-Aug. 11 and organisers have promised a bigger, better and stronger cricketing spectacle than last year.
The first season of the league included a number of big-name players, including Steve Smith, who played his first matches since he was banned by Cricket Australia last year for his roll in a ball-tampering scandal.
Among the other high-profile players who competed in the inaugural event were Australian David Warner, who was also banned in the ball-tampering scandal, and Jamaicans Chris Gayle and Andre Russell.
The list of marquee players competing in this year’s event will be announced in the coming days, organisers said in a statement.
