Defending champion Fruta Conquerors continued their perfect record in Season 4 of the GFF Elite League, dismissing Milerock 4-0 on Wednesday at the Georgetown Football Club (GFC) ground, Bourda.
The Tucville unit recorded the win, compliments of goals from Gregory Richardson, Ryan Hackett and Eon Alleyne in the 16th, 72nd and 90th+1 minute respectively. Adding to the score in the 62nd minute was an own goal.
With the win, Fruta Conquerors climbed to 18 points and maintain their grip atop the standings. On the other hand, Milerock remains in seventh place on three points.
The contest started brightly for the Conquerors as Richardson slotted home into the back of the net shortly after the game started. The scoreline remained unchanged heading into the halftime interval as dogged defending in combination with poor finishing thwarted the Tucville unit from increasing their advantage.
That would change in the second half as Steve Francis recorded an unfortunate own goal, inadvertently directing an attempted headed clearance following a right side corner-kick into the back of the net.
Hackett then made his presence felt, powering an unchallenged header from inside the six-yard box into the lower left corner, after a flicked on pass following a right side corner-kick fell into his path.
The scoreline was sealed in the dying moments as Eon Alleyne blasted from inside the penalty area into the lower left corner, after an initial strike fell into his onrushing route.
The tournament continues today at the same venue with a doubleheader. In the opening match, Den Amstel will oppose Victoria Kings from 18:30hrs, with Fruta Conquerors battling Western Tigers from 20:30hrs in a top of the table clash.
