Contracts for road works, mainly in the interior regions, were among nine multi-million dollar contracts noted by Cabinet at its Sub-Committee meeting held in Linden last Tuesday.
This was revealed last Thursday by Director-General of the Ministry of the Presidency Joseph Harmon, who detailed the contracts during his first post-cabinet press briefing since his new appointment.
Five of the contracts pertained to road works.
Harmon told a press briefing at the ministry that Hunter Street in Georgetown will undergo geometric improvements, which include raising the level of the road above the drains to prevent flooding, asphaltic re-surfacing and erecting relevant road signs. The $86.6 million contract under Region No 4, Ministry of Public Infrastructure, was awarded to Surrey Paving and Ideal Engineering.
Mohamed Ramzan Alli Khan Construction was awarded an $81.1 million contract for the construction and rehabilitation of Compound Road, Mabaruma, Region One, under the Ministry of Public Infrastructure. Also coming under this ministry is a $107.3 million contract awarded to JR Ranch Incorporated for the construction of Main Road, Mahdia Township, Region No 8; a $95.5 million contract awarded to A & S General Contracting Services for the rehabilitation of roads in the Bartica Township; and a $208 million contract awarded to JR Ranch for the rehabilitation and construction of the Township Road Network for Lethem.
Also noted was a US$286,743 contract awarded to Smith Warner International Limited for Consultancy Services for Sea and River Defence Resilience Project, under the Ministry of Public Infrastructure.
Additionally, a £610,320 contract awarded to Mott MacDonald in Association with Caribbean Engineering and Management Consultants (CEMCO) and Rossiprodi Associated for Technical Assistance for Consultancy Services Feasibility Study and Designs, Coastal and River Infrastructure Rehabilitation, Ministry of Public Infrastructure, was increased to £685,203.25, Harmon said.
Further, he said that a US$377,913.67 contract was awarded to Specialists in Sustained Youth Development and Research Incorporated for consultancy services to provide job readiness and job placement services under the Ministry of Public Security.
Harmon also noted that the Department of Public Information (DPI) was awarded the contract for advertising services for the Ministry of Public Health for the year 2018. The exact sum is $18,509,337.80.
