Guyana’s group campaign in the CONCACAF U17 Football Championship ended yesterday as they lost 6-0 to undefeated Haiti at the IMG Arena, Bradenton, Florida.
Guyana entered the match on the back of two losses [4-0 El Salvador and 3-0 Honduras] and needed a victory if they were to progress as one of the third place finishers.
However, that possibility and outcome never materialized as the contest was rendered lopsided and effectively over compliments of a 5-0 halftime score.
Michel Pierre recorded a brace in the 12th and 28th minute, with Kervens Jolicoeur, Kurowskybob Fertil and Omre Etienne netting in the 21st, 27th and 43rd minute.
The final goal came off the boot of Thero Rhinvil in the 82nd minute. Statistics provided by the official CONCACAF website confirmed the total dominance of the Haiti side.
The Haitians recorded 20 shots in total, 14 of which were on target and resulted in the six conversions.
On the other side, the Guyanese recorded an embarrassing two attempts, with a solitary strike on target.
In terms of possession, the Hondurans registered 64%. This equated to 360 attempted passes, with 334 reaching their intended target for an impressive conversion rate of 93%.
For Guyana, 171 passes, their second lowest of the event was recorded, with 150 finding their target at a rate of 88%.
Haiti recorded 15 corner-kicks compared to one by the Guyanese. The Haitians also outscored 17-7 in the interceptions category, further highlighting their superiority.
Guyana ended the tournament in the cellar position, conceding 13 goals and failing to score, the only side in the event to achieve that feat.
