A Canefield Village, East Canje, Berbice man was found dead yesterday morning after an apparent hit and run in front of the Cumberland Village Market.
Keno Sinclair, also known ‘Akeem,’ 25, of First Street, Canefield, was discovered dead along the Cumberland Public Road around 6.15 am yesterday. He is believed to have been hit while making his way home from a wake.
A Don Robin Farm truck driver has since been arrested after he was caught washing what appeared to be blood from the truck he operates.
Sinclair’s body was discovered by residents. “He get a head knock and other knock. He brains like it pitch out all,” one of them said afterward.
It is believed that Sinclair’s skull was crushed as a result of the accident.
However, the suspected driver, who is from Don Robin Farm, has since claimed that he did not hit anyone. However, a police source said the man was arrested at the Albion Estate while attempting to wash off blood from the truck, GLL 481, which he operates.
The man reportedly works for a private company which is contracted to transport sugar to the Albion Estate.
According to a source at the estate, the man was noticed washing off what appeared to be blood from the truck at the estate yesterday morning and the police were immediately informed.
Meanwhile, Sinclair’s aunt, Claudette Darlington, who resides in Georgetown, explained that she received the message around 10 am yesterday. She noted that Sinclair, who would do chores for Canefield residents, was well loved in his community.
She said he was working to open a food stall in the area and his relatives were assisting him to get the necessary documents and find a good location.
Additionally, Annie Caesar, of Canefield Village, who Sinclair lived with, also spoke highly of him. She said he got along well with residents in the area.
According to the woman, many years ago when Sinclair had nowhere to go, they assisted by taking him in to live with them. She stressed that he was very popular in the community and was a great cook and he loved to make achar in particular.
