Soesdyke Falcons and Den Amstel secured respective victories yesterday in the inaugural KFC u20 Independence Knockout Club Football Championship.
Soesdyke Falcons soared past Diamond United 13-2 in the East Bank Demerara section, which was staged at the National Training Centre, Providence.
Tyrone Khan and Mark Barker was the main architects of the demolition, as they both recorded hat-tricks, in what was the largest margin of victory to date in the event.
Khan completed his three-goal haul in the 11th, 58th and 65th minute. On the other hand, Barker sealed his blitz in the first, 64th and 83rd minute.
Similarly, Nickozie Hope crafted a double in the 40th and 82nd minute, with the remaining strikes occurring via conversions from Kevin Sobers, Junior Williams, Malachi Leacock, Raymond Khan and Shiam Pathon in the sixth, 18th, 45th, 50th and 85th minute each.
For the loser, Carlos Wilkie and Jaheem Small registered consolation strikes in the 64th and 69th minute respectively.
Meanwhile, in the West Demerara section, Den Amstel crushed Beavers by a 5-0 score at the Den Amstel Community Centre ground. The opening goal came from an unlikely source compliments of an own goal in the second minute.
The subsequent conversion came off the boot of Keswin Fraser, who made the small crowd in attendance celebrate in the 13th minute.
The viewership was given another reason to celebrate, as Thadeus Edwards tallied the first of his eventual double in the 16th minute. The 3-0 scoreline would remain unchanged heading into the halftime interval.
Following the resumption, Jamal Roberts made his presence felt, placing his effort into the back of the net in the 63rd minute. Edwards would then complete the result, sealing a deserved double with a 67th minute strike.
Also, Eagles defeated DeKinderen via walkover. The event resumes on both zones at their respective venues on Saturday.
