Several passengers were injured yesterday morning, after the Route 42 minibus in which they were travelling toppled along the Diamond, East Bank Demerara Public Road.
The accident occurred around 7 am, in front of Courts’ Diamond outlet.
Reports reaching Stabroek News indicate that the minibus was heading to Georgetown, when the driver reportedly lost control while attempting to overtake another vehicle, resulting in the bus toppling.
The injured persons were taken to the Diamond Hospital, where they were treated. There were no reports of serious injuries.
A video of the accident was circulated on social media site Facebook, yesterday.
In the short video, which was seen by this newspaper, passengers were heard shouting and crying, as a number of public spirited citizens attempted to flip the bus over in order to rescue them.
Some persons were also seen crawling out from the bus windows.
The accident was the second of such a nature to have occurred within the last few days.
On Sunday evening, Charlestown resident, Michael Cozier, lost his life after the driver of the Route 42 minibus in which he was travelling lost control along the Garden of Eden Public Road.
Several other passengers, including a police constable, also sustained injuries.
The driver, who had fled the scene after the accident, has since surrended to the police at the Grove Police Station, in the company of an attorney.
