Investigations into the murder of Albouystown shop owner Nalinie Persaud last Thursday, have led to the arrest of two additional suspects.
Persaud, called ‘Nalo’, 58, was last Thursday killed after she and her husband, Mahendra Rampersaud, were attacked by bandits who broke and entered their Albouystown home. The couple was attacked by four masked men around 3 am.
When Stabroek News contacted Commander of ‘A’ Division, Marlon Chapman, he confirmed that two additional suspects were arrested and held for questioning. Chapman added that he would not be able to say if any of the suspects would be charged soon.
Last Friday, the police had held one person for questioning in relation to the murder.
Rampersaud, in previous reports, had told Stabroek News that he and his wife were asleep when four masked men, two of whom had firearms, woke them up. He stated that he was separated from his wife and taken downstairs to the lower flat of the building.
The man said that throughout the ordeal, his wife was screaming. He then added that he was tied up for hours until he was released by a customer, who saw that the door to the shop had been left ajar.
Rampersaud told this newspaper that the customer had summoned Persaud’s son, who lives in the same yard but in a separate house.
