The national under-17 select side ended day two of the Hand-in-Hand sponsored under-19 inter-county three-day contest against Essequibo on 77-3, trailing by 68 runs at stumps at the Everest Cricket Club (ECC) Ground, yesterday.
After dismissing their senior counterparts for 145, Mavindra Dindyal and Andre Seepersaud guided their side to the close as they are unbeaten on 21 and 01, respectively.
The men dismissed are Rampertab Ramnauth (01), Zeynul Ramsammy (24) and Matthew Nandu (28), the latter needlessly via the run-out route after looking set to return this morning to pile on a big score.
Meanwhile, Essequibo after resuming the day on 30-1, were dismissed for 145 inside 54 overs. Opener Orlando Jailal, who resumed the day on 11, took his overnight total to 34 before he was dismissed.
Jailal, who is a left-hander by trade and the leading run scorer for Essequibo in the tournament, shared in a 61-run partnership with number three batsman Ameer Singh (29).
The duo, who had joined forces with the score on four, steered Essequibo to 65-2 before a middle order collapse where only Azim Mohamed (24), batting at number seven, reached into the twenties with a fighting innings.
Left-arm spinner Chanderpaul Ramraj, who picked up a five-for against Demerara in the preceding round, snared 3-6 while Mavran Prashad (2-0) cleaned up the tail.
