The Cocoi Heron (Ardea cocoi) is the largest heron in South America.

It has predominantly pale grey plumage with a darker grey crest and long legs. It is easily distinguished by its black cap, which shows long black plumes during breeding season.

The Cocoi Heron is a carnivore, it hunts fish and crustaceans in shallow water. It can often be seen along hinterland rivers and marshes, as well agricultural canals, hunting for fish and frogs.
