Business process outsourcing (BPO) company, Qualfon won two awards last week at the Caribbean Export Development Agency biennial conference in Curacao.
A release from the Ministry of Public Telecommunications said that Guyana was represented by Minister Cathy Hughes. The theme was ‘Outsource to the Caribbean’.
The release said that Caribbean Export partnered with the Caribbean Association of Investment Promotion Agencies (CAIPA) and the Government of Curacao to bring together over 300 representatives of BPO companies, telecommunications companies, training institutions, regional Governments, and industry leaders from the Caribbean, Mexico, Colombia, the USA, the Netherlands and Canada.
Guyana and Jamaica were the only two Caribbean countries to win awards. The release said that Qualfon, Guyana’s BPO industry leader, received the ‘BPO Innovator of the Year’, and the ‘BPO Investor of the Year’ awards.
“Guyana is very well positioned to become the choice location for foreign BPO firms looking to expand beyond Call Centers into new growth areas such as shared services centers, legal process outsourcing, human resources outsourcing, and finance and accounting outsourcing. Guyana, Latin America and the Caribbean are an overall perfect fit for business outsourcing with our highly educated, multi-lingual, services-oriented populations, and close affinities to countries in the north from where BPO business originates”, the release added.
