Five witnesses yesterday testified during the commencement of the Preliminary Inquiry (PI) into the murder of Rohan Persaud, who was stabbed in his abdomen during an alleged scuffle with one of the accused in February.

Kemraj Persaud and Hemant Gocool, were jointly charged with the offence, which stated that on February 13, at Samatta Point, Grove, East Bank Demerara, they murdered Rohan Persaud.

They were not required to plead to the charge, which was indictable.

Joshua Bennons, Keith Conway, Melanie Hale, Constable Rankin and Corporal Etwaroo, took to the witness box yesterday to testify in the matter, which is being heard before Magistrate Faith McGusty.

They each detailed the role they played in the investigation.

Persaud and Gocool, who were both unrepresented, declined to cross-examine all the witnesses, and had no objections to the evidence being viewed by the witnesses. The matter was subsequently adjourned until May 16, 2019.

Stabroek News previously reported that Rohan Persaud allegedly got into a quarrel with a man after accusing him of having relations with his reputed wife. A scuffle then ensued and the man took a weapon and stabbed Rohan Persaud in the abdomen. Rohan Persaud was later discovered in an alleyway, just a few corners from his home, with severe injuries.
