National Girls Under – 17 and 19 champion Abosaide Cadogan began her title defence with an imposing win over Angel Rahim on the fourth evening of the 2019 Woodpecker Products Junior National Squash tournament at the Georgetown Club Squash Court, last evening.
Cadogan who exercised her superior range, took the match 11-0, 11-1, 11-3 to warm up for the other competitors in ominous fashion.
Meanwhile, Kirsten Gomes registered her second triumph of the event by downing Teija Edwards 11-0, 11-0, 11-2. Cadogan and Gomes will meet tomorrow in what is expected to be a hotly contested finale.
Boys Under-17 and 19 defending champion Shomari Wiltshire also exercised his pinpoint accuracy and served his way into the winners’ row by defeating Michael Alphonso 11-4, 11-4, 11-5. The emerging Nicholas Verwey was also in ripping form as he coasted to a straight sets win over Gianni Carpenter 11-7, 11-6, 11-2.
Earlier, Samuel Ince-Ca maintained his perfect record by getting pass Demetrius DeAbreu 11-5, 11-4, 11-4 at the end of the duo’s boys Under-17 and 19 combined match.
Aishani Persaud in the girl’s Under – 15 category defeated Beau Fernandes 11-8, 8-11, 11-8, 11-3.
Mohryan Baksh, on the other hand, recorded his sixth win in the boys Under-15 category by defeating Zachary Persaud 11-6, 11-4, 11-7 while Shiloh Asregado collected his second win of the tournament by downing Chad DeAbreu 11-6, 11-5, 11-5.
Louis DaSilva was the other victor in that category, accounting for Matthew Spooner without dropping a point as Tiana Gomes and Safirah Sumner capped off the evening by recording wins over Maya Dean and Christina Fernandes respectively.
