Guyana in consolation beach football win over Belize

Guyana ended their CONCACAF Beach Football World Cup qualifiers on a winning note, overcoming Belize 3-2 yesterday at the Puerto Vallarta facility in Mexico.

Faced with a 2-0 deficit following goals from Wayne Ford and Marlon Meza in the third and fifth minute respectively, Guyana stormed back to clinch the result compliments of three unanswered goals.

Shane Luckie orchestrated the comeback with a double in the 15th and 20th minute to level proceedings, before Kenard Simon completed the turnaround with a 31st conversion.

With the win, Guyana end their campaign in third place on three points, falling short of qualification to the quarterfinal round.  Guyana lost their opening match 8-4 against El Salvador, before falling 2-0 on penalty kicks to Guadeloupe after regulation and extra time ended 3-3.

The top two teams from each of the four groups [16 total teams] will advance to the quarterfinal stage. Guyana finished 12th in the 2017 edition of the 16 team championship, which was held in The Bahamas.

Guyana’s roster for the event reads Deshawn Joseph [captain], Jamal Haynes, Jermaine Grandison, Jeshawn Moore, Trevon Archibald, Simon, Cordell Johnson, Ethon Sparman, Jevon Figueira, Luckie, Keon Sears and Michael Wilson.
