The Mackenzie Market Tarmac will be setting for the grand finale tonight when Amazings battle High Rollers for the coveted Guinness ‘Greatest of the Streets’ Linden Championship.
High Rollers secured their place in the final after upsetting defending champions Silver Bullets on penalty kicks in the semi-finals in a rematch from the earlier group round.
Similarly, Amazings got the better of Capital Storm in a penalty shoot-out to earn their final’s berth in a rematch of the preliminary round.
The similarities don’t end there as both teams possess almost identical statistics. Both teams have recorded four wins against one defeat in their respective campaigns.
High Rollers secured impressive wins over Silver Bullets [semi-final], Swag Entertainment [quarterfinal], Retrieve Unknown [group stage and Barsenal [group stage]. Their only loss came at the hands of Silver Bullets [group stage].
On the other hand, Amazings recorded victories against Capital Storm [semi-final], Coomacka [quarterfinal], Assassa Ballers [group stage] and NK Ballers [group stage]. The only defeat was incurred against Capital Storm [group stage].
In terms of goals scored, Amazings have the edge at 7-6. The duo of Errol Davis and David Fiedtkou have shouldered the scoring burden for Amazings.
For High Rollers, this responsibility has been shared by the quartet of Omar Brewley, Jehu Regis, Shayne Haynes and Jonah Simon. On the defensive end, both teams have conceded four times further highlighting the similarities in their campaign.
According to a release from the coordinators, “The final is expected to be a keenly contested affair, as both teams are evenly matched in many areas. Everyone can feel the anticipation in the air for the clash, and fans will be treated to a wonderful night of action,” stated the release.
“Both teams are newcomers to this stage of the event so nerves might play a factor in the match, as they strive for the coveted title. The fact that a first time champion will be crowned is also testament of ever the improving quality of the tournament, which bodes well for its future. We also want to thank the fans for their continued support,” the release added.
Meanwhile, dethroned champion Silver Bullets will battle Capital Storm in the third place playoff. Prior to the aforementioned matches, the Guinness Plate Championship will be staged.
The winning team will pocket $400,000 and the championship trophy.
