The trial against attorney Ryan Crawford, in relation to offences racked up during a controversial traffic stop last year, is set to continue on July 29, at the Mahaicony Magistrate’s Court.
The matter, which was scheduled to be heard yesterday, was given a later date, as the magistrate responsible for hearing the matter was out on annual leave.
Crawford was faced with five charges in September, 2018, which stemmed from an expletive-laden exchange during a police traffic stop.
The attorney was charged with failure to produce a driver’s licence, prohibition of tinted glass, use of obscene language, riotous behaviour and driving an unfit motor vehicle.
Stabroek News last reported in November that a disclosure of statements was made to the defendant.
Crawford faced the charges after a video was circulated on social media which showed him using a stream of expletives while questioning the police rank who had stopped him on the public road.
In reports subsequent to the release of the video, members of the public had spoken on the attorney’s behalf, stating that police ranks abuse their power by stopping vehicles without suspecting the drivers of committing any crimes, while others condemned his behaviour.
Crawford had also issued an apology for his actions. He had said that he became angry after waiting for a while and not being given any reason for the detention.
