A 9-month-old toddler reportedly drowned in a tub of water at D’Edward Village, West Coast Berbice on Monday afternoon.
Stabroek News was told that the toddler, Trevon Albert, of Lot 14 D’Edward Village, was discovered face down in the tub sometime after 6 pm.
According to information gathered, the child was at home with his teenage mother and another female adult.
This publication was told that the child and his mother were downstairs while the other adult was upstairs when the incident transpired.
A relative explained that the child’s mother claimed she and the child were snuggling when she dozed off.
However, when the other female returned downstairs about one hour after and noticed the child was not with the mother, a search was launched.
The child was found in a tub located in the outside bathroom, which is situated a few steps away from the door of the kitchen.
Albert was rushed to the Fort Wellington Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
An investigation has been launched and an autopsy is expected to be done tomorrow to ascertain the cause of death.
