Davanand Narine, the man who attempted to take his own life after he allegedly fatally stabbed his wife at their Anna Regina, Essequibo home last week, was remanded to prison when he appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts yesterday charged with murder.
It is alleged that on May 16th at Anna Regina, Essequibo, Narine murdered Farida Khayum.
Narine, a 50-year-old chainsaw operator, was not required to enter a plea to the capital offence of murder which was read to him by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan.
According to the facts presented to the court by police prosecutor Gordon Mansfield, on the day in question, the accused and his wife were at home in their kitchen when an argument erupted. The accused then armed himself with a knife and stabbed Khayum about her body. The woman was subsequently rushed to the Suddie hospital where she later died.
Khayum, 39, a domestic worker, was stabbed several times about her body, including to her neck, during the incident, which occurred around 10:30 pm last week Thursday at her Lot 9, Anna Regina, Essequibo Coast home.
