As investigators continue to probe the death of Kareema Mary Cholmondeley, the teenager who lost her life after she allegedly jumped from her husband’s vehicle and was struck by another car, her husband and the driver remain in custody.
This was confirmed by Traffic Chief Linden Isles who told Stabroek News yesterday that the matter is also being investigated by ranks of the Criminal Investigation Department.
The police had said that Cholmondeley, 18, of Lot 10 BB GEC Scheme, Hugh Ghanie Park, Cummings Lodge, was run over on the Turkeyen Railway Embankment Road around 10:30 pm on Wednesday.
Her 42-year-old reputed husband, they added, related to investigators that he and Cholmondeley were having an argument before she threw herself onto the roadway, where she was run over.
The driver of the other car, PJJ 5884, which was proceeding west along the southern side of the road, said that he saw a male pushing a bicycle on the same side of the road, and as he was about to pass him, observed someone lying on the roadway.
However, because of the short distance, he said that his vehicle ran over the body.
Cholmondeley was picked up in an unconscious state and rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
Neighbours had related to Stabroek News that Cholmondeley was living alone with her reputed husband, previously her landlord.
They related that she had been acting in an erratic manner since the beginning of the year.
