Marlon Nicholson, Assata Eastman, Kissanna Glen and Morvin Hamilton were among the top podium finishers when the Athletics Association of Guyana (AAG), in collaboration with the Ex-Athletes and Friends Association staged its 5K/10K Independence road race yesterday.
Nicholson took the top honors in the highly contested male 20-39 years category ahead of season campaigners, Cleveland Thomas and Winston Missigher for the event which started at GNS Ground, proceeded to UG road and returned to the point of origin for the finish.
Eastman ran away with the spoils of the female 20-34 years age group, leading Tabitha Bowman and Tamar Charles onto the podium.
Glen was the first finisher for the Girls 16-19 years, besting the likes of Aaliyah Moore, Aaliyah Headley, Romona Frank and Atiba Jeffrey.
Hamilton took home the winner’s trophy for the Boys 16-19 years. He led Ronell Newton and Jevon Harris onto the podium for the category which had the most athletes finishing (12). Meanwhile, Attoya Harvey (U-16 Girls), Odida Parkinson (U-16 Boys), Abedemi Charles (Women O-35), Godfrey Mbihia (Men 40-49), Gary Hartog (Over 50 Men) and Calvin Thomas (Paraplegic) were the winners of their respective categories. During the three events staged by Athletics Association of Guyana (AAG), in collaboration with the Ex-Athletes and Friends Association this weekend which included the Plaisance Mile, the Relay Championships, and the 5k/10k, a total of 14 tablets, eight bicycles and 65 pairs of running shoes were up for grabs.
The male and female winners of the 5K/ 10K road races also pocketed $50,000 each.
