Godfrey Mbihia came, saw and conquered.
The Kenyan ace runner brought his talents to the 592 and ran away with the spoils of the Rising Stars Independence 5K event yesterday.
Mbihia finished the race which started outside the National Park on Albert Street and finished inside the Park in 15:22.20.
The 40 year old who also took the top honors in the Masters 35-45 category, led Marlon Nicholson (15.30.76) and Odwin Tudor (15.44.76) onto the podium.
Seasoned campaigners, Cleveland Thomas and Winston Missigher finished fourth and fifth in that order.
In a post-race interview, Mbihia who has competed all across the globe noted that he would entertain the idea of returning next year to defend his title. The proud Kenyan also stated that the local athletes are full of potential but investment need to be made in order for them to excel.
Meanwhile, Kissanna Glen emerged winner of the female category.
Up to press time, her finishing time was yet to be determined but what was for certain was that former distance standout, Abedemi Charles and Shaqua Tyrell placed second and third.
Haikeda Hilliman, Beyonce Depeazer and Teia Lowe were the top three junior females. The top three junior males were Ron Marks, Daniel Mitchell and Junior Giles.
There was also a one-lap race on the inner circuit of the National Park for runners 14 and under. Hector Hartwell, coached by Ian Campbell won the event.

attracted a total of 66 entrants, dubbed yesterday’s meet a resounding success and thanked the sponsors and the athletes for their show of support.
Sponsors included Guybisco, Office of the President, the Guyana Committee of Services, E-Networks and Ken Phillips (Antartic Maintenance).
