On Sunday last, Majesty International introduced 25 quarterfinalists to compete in the Miss World Guyana 2020 competition.
Reigning Miss World Guyana Ambika Ramraj shed some light on what the journey as queen has been for her so far and read the charge to those present before sashing them. Some of the candidates reside abroad did their introductions via videos.
The Miss World Guyana Organisation had announced earlier this year that instead of having a local pageant for 2019 they would use this year to better prepare the selected candidates for next year’s competition. This strategy, the organisation said in a release, would allow the competitors ample time to “gain the confidence that is required to become the face of Guyana [and to]… build more visibility, add value, boost confidence, build character and the resilience for each journey.”
This will also allow the contestants to be more globally structured thereby executing social programmes that will better serve the society on a long-term basis.
Initially there would have been no participant for the international leg due to the restructuring of the Miss World Guyana Organization. However, the Miss World Organization has informed National Director Natasha Martindale that Guyana was an important attribute to the Miss World Pageant, therefore, Guyana will have a representative at this year’s pageant.
Through a thorough screening process, the national organization has accessed past queens, their social media presence as well as how active they are in their communities and the most distinguished was selected. The selected contestant will be disclosed at a coronation ceremony on June 23.
Meanwhile, of the 75 applicants for next year’s competition, the 25 shortlisted are: Aliya Wong, Tiffani Bonner, Jamicia Mc Calman, Jhadee Gordon, Alicia Jordan, Sasha Hughes-Williams, Tia Shepherd, Gabriella Chapman, Raeshaunna Jones, Danasha Peterson, Brittany Singh, Reshana Khan, Malesha Mackoon, Samantha Stanwick, Celicia Campbell, Kimberly Adams, Marlena Jurakan, Ederle Stephen, Ronecca Arjune, Rabeena Hussain, Nasaskeia Kendall, Abeena Gomes, Aliyah Anthony, Sherzana Munilall, and Stacy Sirkissoon. Between January and March, these candidates will be shortlisted to semifinalists and again between March and May to finalists who will compete at the local leg in May of next year.
The Miss World Guyana Organization thanked its “sponsors, partners, fans, and friends for their continued support, especially, the Ministry of Public Telecom-munications, Pegasus, Impressions, Space Gym, Windsor Estates who made our press presentations an elegant event and official photographer, Keron Bruce.”
