A second suspect was yesterday charged with the murder of Patrick Fraser, who was gunned down while liming with friends at an abandoned house at Bagotstown, East Bank Demerara (EBD) last month.
In the courtroom of acting Chief Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus in Georgetown, police prosecutor Shellon Daniels made an application to have the murder charge against the first accused, Kevin Rose, who was previously charged, withdrawn and a joint charge, against Rose and Shemar Moore, 23, instituted.
The application was made based on the advice of the Director of Police Prosecutions (DPP).
Magistrate Isaacs-Marcus granted the application and later read the joint charge, which stated that on May 9th, at Bagotstown, EBD, in the company of others, Rose and Moore murdered Fraser during the course or furtherance of a robbery.
Neither Rose, of 1058 19th Street, Diamond Housing Scheme, nor Moore, of La Parfaite Harmonie, was required to plead to the indictable offence.
The court heard that the men had only been released from prison just over a month prior to the commission of the crime.
Rose stated that he was released on April 1st, 2019 after serving a four-year sentence for possession of an illegal firearm, while Moore told the court that he was released on April 3rd, after serving time for a robbery charge.
Both men were remanded to prison and the matter adjourned until June 19th.
Fraser was shot two times—to one of his legs and to his abdomen—around 8.30 pm on May 9th at an abandoned property, popularly known as a “drug yard.”
In 2016, Rose was one of two persons charged in relation to the illegal possession of a .32 revolver and six matching rounds. He also faced two armed robbery charges and an attempt to commit a felony charge.
Both Rose and Moore were also sentenced to a year in prison in 2016 after they escaped from the Providence Police Station.
