Two police officers, who were recently injured in the line of duty, were on Thursday promoted by Commissioner of Police Leslie James for their bravery.
Clive Clarke, who was wounded during a shootout with home invaders at a Norton Street, Georgetown house last week Thursday, was promoted to the rank of Sergeant, while Mark Grimmond, who was in a recent plane crash, was promoted to the rank of Corporal.
Clarke previously had the rank of Corporal, while Grimmond was at the level of Constable.
Clarke and Grimmond, who were described in a press release issued by the force as “brave and courageous,” are stationed at Brickdam Police Station and at Eteringbang, Region Seven, respectively.
The promotions were done during a meeting held in the Commissioner’s Conference Room.
Police spokesman Jairam Ramlakhan said that James noted that the “outstanding performances” by ranks will always by recognised and regarded by the force.
Clarke, who has over ten years of services, assured that his promotion would only see his performance improving.
In February, Grimmond and a pilot were rescued after a Guyana Adventist Medical Aviation Services (GAMAS) medevac plane, which they were in, crash-landed on the West Bank Demerara.
At the time, Grimmond was escorting the body of United States Missionary Christopher Matthews, Director of the Kaikan Bible School in Guyana.
Grimmond, who has served the force for eight years, said he was elated with his first promotion.
Both ranks are still recuperating at their respective homes.
