Guyana suffered mixed results during the first two days in the inaugural four-team UDeCOTT T10 International Cricket Tournament in Trinidad and Tobago.
On Friday evening, Guyana defeated Denesh Ramdin’s South Central TT by eight wickets on the back of a commanding half-century from Christopher Barnwell while they lost to Kieron Pollard and Dwayne Bravo’s North Tobago on Saturday.
In the first encounter, South Central batted first and were limited to 83-7 from their allotted 10 overs with left arm Spinner Veerasammy Permaul (2-10) ending as the pick of the bowlers.
Guyana in response rocketed to 88-2 inside six overs with Barnwell hammering an unbeaten 58 inclusive of eight sixes and four. Skipper Leon Johnson was unbeaten at the end on 10 while Trevon Griffith (12) was the other man to reach double figures.
However, their fortunes were not the same against North Tobago who defeated the Guyanese by 13 runs on Saturday. Batting first, the Tobago Side complied 93-5 from their allotted 10 overs. Keemo Paul led the way with two scalps for Guyana who in reply, were kept in check and restricted to 80-8 as Chandrapaul Hemraj (33) nearly carried his side over the line.
Guyana was scheduled to take on the Windward Island at 20:00hrs last evening in their final group match in pursuit of a place in today’s finale.
