Muammar Jabbar, who was recently held by police in connection with the 2013 murder of Tolasicy Marshall, was yesterday brought before a city court, where a murder charge was read to him.
Jabbar, called Christopher Haynes, was brought before acting Chief Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus, who read the indictable charge to him.
It is alleged that the accused on August 20th, 2013, at James Street, Albouystown, while armed with a knife, murdered Marshall. Police prosecutor Shellon Daniels told the court that a wanted bulletin was issued for the accused. She noted, however, that the case file is incomplete.
Asked if he had any other matters before the court, Jabbar, 31, told the court that he has a pending armed robbery matter in Berbice. He added that he was brought before the court four months ago.
The magistrate then asked the prosecutor why the accused was only now being brought before the court. Prosecutor Daniels then stated that after ranks would have received information from their informant and they would have gone to Berbice to make the arrest.
Jabbar was later remanded to prison until June 24th, when the case will be called again.
Marshall, also known as ‘Talo,’ of Hogg Street, Albouystown, sustained two stab wounds in an attack and died at the Georgetown Hospital about half an hour later. Stabroek News had been told then that he had paid his assailant to make jewellery for him but the man failed to deliver the goods.
Marshall later retrieved a gold chain from the man but indicated that the jeweller still owed him. He was walking through School Street, near the junction with James Street, when his assailant reportedly walked out of his yard and stabbed him.
Residents recalled seeing Marshall with blood gushing out of his chest, running down James Street before collapsing in front of a tree on Barr Street.
