Lease for ‘Linden Blue Lakes project’ rescinded by NICIL

Even as President David Granger promised the principals of the Linden Blue Lakes project to look into their concerns regarding the National Industrial and Commercial Investments Limited’s (NICIL) role in holding back their mega green-energy project in Region 10, the company received a letter from NICIL informing them that they were rescinding the lease.

Johnson endorses emerging T10 format

Skipper of the Guyana Jaguars Leon Johnson has endorsed cricket’s newest format – T10 – the ten overs slug out which has emerged as a more concise and exciting dimension to the sport for fans and players alike.   “There is definitely a place for it; any game that is entertaining for the spectators will always have a place,” Johnson told Stabroek Sport following Guyana’s recent successful run in the just concluded four-team UDeCOTT T10 International Cricket Tournament in Trinidad and Tobago.  Guyana, in the final, took down a North Tobago side comprising the likes of Kieron Pollard, Dwayne Bravo and Sunil Narine.

Guyana to formalise investment pact with Russia – Granger

President David Granger has declared that Guyana will strengthen its relations with Russia and is looking forward, particularly, to the successful conclusion of agreements relating to investments and the mutual recognition of educational qualifications.    According to a Ministry of the Presidency (MotP) release, the President was at the time speaking at a reception hosted at the Embassy of the Russian Federation last evening that was also attended by former President Donald Ramotar, Ministers of the Government and other members of the diplomatic corps, in honour of Russia Day 2019.    “Guyana will continue to collaborate at the multilateral level with Russia in pursuing our common interests, including action to combat the threats of transnational crime, the adverse effects of climate change and the securing of global peace and security,” President Granger said.

Goat mouth and bitter fruits

Shortly after dawn, as the sun suffuses the eastern sky and temperatures start to rise, the bees arrive to forage on the bright yellow flowers crowding the wild “carille” vine.  Known as the “baan carille,” it is an aggressive creeper that sprouted on its own, covering the ornamental tree in the far corner of the garden, so that it now appears as a strange, looming sentinel.  A milder version of the bitter gourd plant, this specimen bears miniature bumpy fruits only about an inch big.
