Senior Magistrate Leron Daly yesterday told Daniel Forrester, the motorcyclist who was charged last year with causing the death of a pedestrian in a collision at Bagotstown, on the East Bank of Demerara, that he would have to lead his defence in the matter.
Forrester is on trial on the charge that on September 12th, 2018, at Bagotstown Public Road, he rode motorcycle CJ 6345 in a manner dangerous to the public, thereby causing the death of Shawn Bruce.
During yesterday’s hearing, the accused heard from Magistrate Daly that there was sufficient evidence to have him lead his defence in the matter.
Attorney Jed Vasconcellos, who is representing the accused, requested a date for his client to be able to lead his defence. This request was later granted by the magistrate and the matter was adjourned until July 17th.
At Forrester’s arraignment, the police contended that the accused was the rider of a motorcycle, CJ 6345, going south along the eastern carriageway of the Bagotstown Public Road at a fast rate of speed, when he collided with Bruce, who was attempting to cross the road. Both of them fell unconscious after the collision and they were later picked up and rushed to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre, where Bruce was pronounced dead upon arrival.
