Bartica will come alive tonight when the 3rd annual Guinness ‘Greatest of the Streets’ Bartica Championship kicks-off with eight elimination matches at the Community Centre Tarmac.
According to the coordinator Alden Marslowe, highly quality action was witnessed in the Playoff Round on Wednesday which indicates that the respective teams are well prepared and rearing to go in anticipation of securing the coveted title.
The tournament will be kicked off by the Mighty Ruler and Iteballi clash from 19:00hrs, while Prison Officers will attempt to discipline Falmouth at 19:30hrs in the second showdown.
A Potaro Derby will take centre stage in the third affair as Potaro Strikers battle Potaro United from 20:00hrs, whilst defending champion Disconnection Crew begin the defence of their title against Walking Boyz at 20:30hrs.
In the fifth contest at 21:00hrs, Almanac Kings will match skills with Beacon, with Goal-Raiders opposing Ballers in the sixth match from 21:30hrs.
The final two matches of the night will pit Jones Avenue against Police from 22:00hrs and former champion Rivers View against Man City at 22:30hrs.
The aforementioned matches were arranged after the Playoff Round officially concluded on Wednesday night at the same venue.
The respective winners will progress to the round-robin stage on June 15th. This round will feature two groups of four teams.
The respective group winner and runner-up from each section will then advance to the semi-final round June 16th. Following the semi-final stage, the third place playoff and final will occur.
Similarly, the four teams that fail to progress from the respective groups will contest the Guinness Plate Championship. The semi-final and eventual finale of this section will be staged on the final night before the third place matchup.
Winner of the zone will collect $400,000 and the respective trophy. They will also earn an automatic place in the National Championship, which is pegged to start in August.
Meanwhile, the losing finalist will receive $150,000 and a trophy. On the other hand, the third and fourth place finishers pocket $100,000 and $75,000 respectively and the corresponding accolade.
The victor of the Guinness Plate Championship will receive $60,000. The other major sponsor of the event is Colours Boutique.
