Following his reappointment hours earlier as Alliance For Change (AFC) leader, Khemraj Ramjattan has received the majority support of delegates at the party’s National Executive Conference (NEC) to be the prime ministerial candidate for governing coalition at the next elections.
A motion on the selection of the prime ministerial candidate was considered at the NEC, which is still ongoing.
Prime Minister Moses Nagamootoo, who was nominated by the AFC when it joined the APNU in a coalition for the 2015 general elections, left before the consideration of the motion, saying that he did not want to influence the process.
Ramjattan, who is the coalition’s current Public Security Minister, was said to have received the overwhelming support of party delegates at the conference.
