Teen found on Charity Public Road after hit-and-run

The lifeless body of a 17-year-old was on Wednesday evening discovered on the Charity Public Road, Essequibo Coast, and an autopsy has confirmed he was the victim of a hit-and-run accident.

The dead teen has been identified as Ronalzo Rayanzo, a labourer of 700 Charity New Housing Scheme, Essequibo.

Contacted by Stabroek News yesterday, Commander of ‘G’ Division Khali Pareshram confirmed the accident, which occurred around 10.50 pm.

He said an autopsy conducted on Rayanzo’s remains on Thursday showed that he died as a result of multiple crush injuries.

Pareshram said as the investigation continues, the police yesterday arrested a male for questioning. A car, which is suspected to have struck Rayanzo, was also impounded, he added.

While the details leading up to the accident remain unclear, Stabroek News understands that the police were summoned to the scene on Wednesday night after receiving a call from an unknown person.

Upon arrival, they noticed Rayanzo’s body lying in the middle of the road. Blood was seen around his head.

He was rushed to the Charity Hospital and later transferred to the Suddie Hospital after his condition worsened. Rayanzo subsequently succumbed to his injuries.

Additional information reaching this newspaper revealed that at the time of the accident, Rayanzo was on his way to visit a friend who lives a village away from him.
