Barbados’s display theme this year at Chelsea Flower Show was ‘The Charter of Barbados 1652’. This important historical document that ended a war in Barbados was signed in the Mermaid Tavern at Oistins, on January 17, 1652.
As a display theme, this was quite challenging. It consisted of fresh flowers and foliage. Exotic Heliconias, Anthurium Lilies, Ginger Lilies and various types of foliage were expertly selected and packed into approximately 81 boxes before being air-freighted to London.
Lead Coordinator Shirley Ann Howell and team mounted the display, surrounded by a wooden façade, on a 20 x 20 ft standalone platform that allowed visitors to walk around it.
The hard work and effort paid off and saw Barbados taking home its 20th gold medal.
In the Garden congratulates Barbados on winning at Chelsea. The team did a fantastic job on a display that was well put together. You certainly did your country proud. (To be continued next week.)
Until next week, Happy Gardening.
