Gafsons Industries Limited’s concrete blocks are officially a certified product, after the company was presented with a certificate from the Guyana National Bureau of Standards (GNBS), upon successfully fulfilling the requirements of the Guyana Standard (GYS) Specification for load bearing masonry concrete units.
In a press release, Public Relations Officer of GNBS, Lloyd David, stated that the certificate was presented to Gafsons’ factory manager, Bharrath Rampersaud, by Donavon Fraser, the head of GNBS’s Certification Services Department, on June 13, at the company’s new McDoom complex.
The certificate, which is valid for one year, was presented after the four-inch concrete blocks manufactured by the company fulfilled the requirements of the GYS 215:2018 specification for load bearing masonry concrete units.
“This certificate, which is effective from June 7, 2019, permits Gafsons Industries Limited to be the first company in Guyana to affix the National Standards Mark to the concrete block it manufactures,” the release further stated.
In addition, polyvinyl chloride pipes (PVC) manufactured by the company are also certified to national standards. Other products certified to national standards under the GNBS product certification include PVC pipes manufactured by Guyana Thermoplastics Limited and gold jewellery produced by Steve’s Jewellery.
Moreover, the release stated that the GNBS plans to widen its product certification scheme to include the certification of water tanks, conduits and other locally manufactured products and encourages manufacturers of local products to have their products certified. Benefits of having certified products include, “improved product quality and increased sales due to increased consumer confidence.”
