A part-time customer service representative was yesterday charged with driving dangerously, which resulted in an accident that left the victim confined to a wheelchair.
Dwayne Nurse was brought before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan, who read the charge to him in Georgetown.
It was alleged that on December 25th, 2018, at Regent Street, Nurse drove PWW 6873 in a manner dangerous to the public.
Nurse denied the charge.
Police prosecutor Arvin Moore told the court that on the day in question, Nurse, who was the driver of PWW 6873, was going west along the southern side of Regent Street when he swerved to avoid a pothole and ended up colliding with a motorcyclist, who was proceeding in the opposite direction. The rider of the motorcycle, CH 6105, suffered injuries and was later rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where he was admitted as a patient and underwent an operation for a fractured right leg. The prosecutor noted that the injured rider remains in a wheelchair.
Attorney Leslie Sobers, who represented the accused, requested reasonable bail for his client. The Chief Magistrate later granted the accused $20,000 bail and ordered that he return to court on July 12th.
