The police in ‘A’ Division are probing the death of a 60-year-old security guard of Cummings Electrical Company, who was found with a wound to his head, in a guard hut in Campbell-ville, where he had been on the night shift.
Dead is Keegan Boston of Lot 520 East Ruimveldt Housing Scheme, Georgetown.
Police spokesman Jairam Ramlakhan, in a press release yesterday, said that an investigation has since been launched into Boston’s death, which occurred sometime between 11 pm Saturday and 6:15 am on Sunday.
Boston, Ramlakhan said, was discovered dead, with a wound to the back of his head, in the company’s guard hut, which is situated in front of the Lot 83 Garnett Street, Campbellville premises.
The police are awaiting an autopsy to determine how Boston met his demise. The autopsy is scheduled to be conducted tomorrow.
Stabroek News was told that the discovery was made by two employees, David Cummings— a fellow security guard— and an electrician whose name was given
as Lewis.
The men, who were both reporting for duty on Sunday morning, sensed something was amiss when they called on Boston to unlock the gate and got no answer.
“Well there was no answer, the place was secure. It was locked from inside and after we ain’t get no answer, the electrician (Lewis), he jump over the gate and we see him (Boston) lying down flat in the guard hut,” Cummings said.
The police were immediately summoned. “We only see blood after the police came and did their investigation and so on,” he added.
When Stabroek News visited the company’s office yesterday, the secretary said that the Managing Director did not wish to comment on the incident at that time, since they were awaiting the autopsy report.
The business is monitored by security cameras, however, this newspaper understands that officials only learnt that the cameras were not working when they were about to review the footage to determine what exactly led to Boston’s demise.
Boston had been employed with the company for several months. His colleagues described him as a very pleasant individual.
