Carlos Petterson has returned to Guyana with one goal in mind.
The goal: to redeem himself and finish on the podium at next year’s edition of the World Classic Powerlifting Championships.
After having to literally sit out the event in Sweden this year due to a 12-month suspension after he competed in a Strongfit Barbados competition last month, the standout strongman has his eyes on the prize.
Fresh off the plane from Sweden, Petterson who had a front row seat at the championships told this publication yesterday that he intends to use the upcoming months “to focus on the ‘World’s next year.”
The lover of reggae said included on his gym playlist will be a popular Bob Marley hit, Redemption Song.
He also noted that the experience he gained as a spectator in Sweden was “marvelous”.
“While in Sweden, even though I did not compete, I was able to gain a marvelous experience by seeing other athletes like myself compete and give their all to place on the podium,” he said.
“I believe if I had competed, based on my training and focus towards World’s I would have been in the top three,” he added.
Petterson, who would have competed in the 93kg Open class said he was “boiling inside” just watching and not being able to lift but he is humbled and knows that his time to shine will come.
He thanked sponsors, Guyana Shore Base Inc., Fitness Express, Space Gym, and others “who would like to remain private” for making his sojourn to Sweden a reality and “bringing me this far.”
Petterson then concluded by saying the following; “Thank you very much for your support, time and effort that you have shown me and in the future I will make you proud.”
The 2020 edition of the World Classic Powerlifting Championships will be staged in Belarus.
