Even as the GBTI/GTA Open competition continues to be dampened by harsh weather, Cristy Campbell and Afruica Gentle managed to discover some sunshine by snapping up the women’s doubles title on Tuesday at GBTI’s Lawn Tennis Court and facilities, Bel Air, Georgetown.
The duo clinched the title with a dominant showing against Fiona Bushell and national coach Shelly Daly-Ramdyhan, only dropping two games in the process, winning 6-1, 6-1.
The other triumph of the evening went to Andre Lopes who got the better of Rafael Nunez 6-0, 6-1 in the men’s over 45 category final.
Top honours also belonged to Gregoire Vincent who recorded a gruelling 7-5, 6-5 semifinal win over Joshua Kalekyezi in the men’s Open category. Meanwhile, action in the mixed doubles category saw Afruica Gentle locking arms with Gavin Lewis to down Leyland Leacock and Kizzy Richmond 2-0 while Heimraj Resaul and Kalyca Fraser received a walkover from Anthony Downes and Rebecca Mitchell.
