Upper Demerara Football Association [UDFA] champion Botofago and Dynamic FC secured semi-final berths following quarterfinal victories in the KFC Independence Knockout Club National Championship yesterday at the National Training Centre, Providence.
Botofago overcame East Bank Demerara winner Timehri Panthers 3-2. Andre Mayers, Jermaine Kingston and Leon Jones scored in the 42nd, 77th and 90th+1 minute respectively.
For the loser, Ernest McLean and Shannon Samnauth netted in the 66th and 72nd minute each. On the other hand, Dynamic FC downed Berbice Champion New Amsterdam [NA] United 3-0.
Following a scoreless first half period, Abgyl Henry and Shamar Dublin scored in the 78th and 86th minute respectively. Adding to score in the 90th minute was an own goal.
Meanwhile, the tournament will resume today at the same venue with the second round of matches in the section. Rupununi champion Strikers will oppose Santos FC of Georgetown from 12:30hrs.
In the second match, Georgetown champion Fruta Conquerors will lock horns with East Coast Demerara winner Buxton United at 15:00hrs.
Winner of the overall tournament will pocket $500,000 and a trophy, with the second and third place finishers receiving $300,000 and $200,000 each and the corresponding accolade. The fourth-place finisher will receive a trophy.
