Lindener remanded over cannabis found in bus tyres

Seon Bakker

A Linden resident was on Friday remanded to prison after he was charged with the possession of cannabis found in tyres.

It is alleged that Seon Bakker, 42, on June 15, at Mabura, Upper Demerara, had in his possession 28.148 kilogrammes of cannabis for trafficking.

Bakker denied the allegation read to him by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan.

Police prosecutor Gordon Mansfield stated that on the day in question, at about 5 pm, police at the Mabura outpost, acting on information received, stopped and searched minibus PNN 7872, en-route to Mahdia and driven by the accused, with two passengers. During the search, the prosecutor noted that two bulky wheels were observed by the police, strapped to the bus. The accused was then asked who the wheels belonged to and stated that he received it from a man called “Gordon” to give to a man called “Greg”.
