A Linden resident was yesterday granted bail after he was charged with wounding a man after a row over missing items.
Dellon Lester was read the charge by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan in a Georgetown court, where it was alleged that on June 5th, at Granny Backdam, Essequibo River, he unlawfully and maliciously wounded Michael Miller.
Lester denied the charge.
Police Prosecutor Gordon Mansfield made no objection to bail being granted.
According to Mansfield, Miller on June 4th left his items in a haversack in the backdam and went out. The prosecutor noted that upon his return to the camp, he discovered that his haversack and items were missing. The court heard that he made enquiries and based on information received he went to the defendant to enquire about the missing items. This later resulted in a heated exchange between the two, and Lester allegedly pulling a knife and stabbing the complainant several times about his body. Miller was later taken to the Linden Hospital, where he was treated and later discharged.
The Chief Magistrate subsequently granted the accused $70,000 bail and ordered him not to go within 50 feet of Miller until the completion of the proceedings.
The case is slated to be called again on July 16th at the Mahdia Magistrate’s Court.
