The Business School of Brickdam, will look to make a lasting impression when they take to the field for the first time in the Sir Garfield Sobers schools cricket tournament in Barbados during the summer.

According to Director of the School, James Bovell, the group of young men are dedicated to making the school and the country proud as the team embarks on its inaugural appearance at the prestigious tournament.

Bovell noted that six of the guys have played in this tournament before and are actively involved in cricket locally since they have been awarded scholarships to the school based on their performances.

Among them are Urshadeva Balgobin, Omesh Danram and Andsuegga Rodrigues.

Bovell also disclosed that Coach of the team, Darien Best, previously participated at the tournament and knows the conditions well.

Best explained that the team has already begun preparing for the competition, with the key focus being on playing on the artificial turf in order to familiarize themselves with the conditions in Barbados.

Bovell added that while they have been getting along fairly well with their accommodation and necessities for the trip, there still is a large financial strain on the boys since they are raising funds on their own to participate.

He indicated that corporate sponsorship has been tedious but is optimistic that the business community can come forward and assist the boys, saying that they can directly write a cheque to Muneshwar’s Travel Agency for the tickets in order for them to travel.

Bovell  said that he feels the team stands a good chance of doing well in Barbados with the captain, Sunil Ramlall having a stable head on his shoulders and capable of leading the boys who are also integral members of their clubs with a few having represented Guyana.

The team will come from Ramlall, Rodrigues, Christopher Harry, Brandon Volney, Gustavus Hutson, Ansar Khan, Marlon Boele, Romel Zamal, Tatesh Shivrattan, Balgobin, Jeffery Blair, Danram, Akeem Critchlow, Wayne McPherson, Stephon Wilson, Joek Gilkes, Jamal Montell, Ezekiel Wilson, and Matthew Jupiter.
