The Guyana Sugar Corporation (GuySuCo) yesterday said that persons trespassing on its La Bonne Intention (LBI), East Coast Demerara compound would be prosecuted.
According to a press release from the company, they are informing members of the public bearing firearms, including private security companies, that permission must be granted by their management before access is provided to its LBI head office compound. This pronouncement comes after GuySuCo was informed that a private security company has been accessing the compound, which they say has to cease immediately “or the Corporation will be forced to take appropriate actions to secure its employees and property”. The company said that unauthorised persons carrying firearms are now advised that the weapons are not permitted on the property without permission, and any person in violation of the protocol will be escorted off of the premises and the relevant authorities will be informed. GuySuCo has been locked in a standoff with the Special Purpose Unit which was created by the government to divest certain sugar estate assets.
