The extradition proceedings against ex-policeman Shaun Darcy Nebblett continued yesterday with testimony of the Immigration Officer who discovered that he was blacklisted.
Officer Nigel Newton, who is stationed at the Central Immigration and Passport Office and attached to the immigration service at Berbice as the Inspector-in-Charge, took the stand yesterday before Magistrate Faith McGusty.
Newton, guided by attorney Stacy Goodings, who is representing the interest of the United States in the proceedings, told the court the Border Management System revealed on Monday, April 29th, 2019, that Nebblett, with passport number R0681780, was blacklisted. At the time, Nebblett was destined for Suriname.
Newton noted that he later informed the Chief Immigration Officer, Edward Gray, and based on information received the accused was arrested and handed over to the Springlands Police. Newton noted that he had previously seen the accused 15 years ago at Cheddi Jagan International Airport, where he was an immigration officer while the defendant was a policeman.
Subsequent to his testimony, he was subjected to cross-examination by attorney Darren Wade.
The matter was adjourned until July 23rd.
