The findings of the investigations into the deaths of the three children at the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) in January after being administered cancer drugs, is still under review by the Medical Council of Guyana, Head of the agency, Dr Navindranauth Rambarran said.
Rambarran, in a brief telephone interview, said the matter is still with the disciplinary committee being reviewed, noting that a certain process has to be followed.
He noted that there is no timeline on this process and it remains unclear when the committee’s recommendations will be made.
The findings from the investigations have been with the committee for the past month.
The three children, Curwayne Edwards, seven, three-year-old Roshini Seegobin and six-year-old Sharezer Mendonca, were all leukemia patients and were treated by the same team of doctors.
Edwards died on January 14, while Seegobin, of Enmore, East Coast Demerara, died on January 18, and Mendonca, of Queenstown, Essequibo Coast, died on January 24.
The GPH and the Ministry of Public Health launched separate investigations, which found that the medication was incorrectly administered and standard operating procedures were not followed.
The three doctors who were directly involved were relieved of their duties and subsequently sent on administrative leave on January 29. They remain on leave.
