President’s College, New Amsterdam Technical Institute [NATI], Berbice High and Marian Academy secured wins in the U18 division when the National Schools Basketball Festival [NSBF] commenced Sunday at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall, Homestretch Avenue.
President’s College mauled West Demerara 69-16. Richard Semple, Tushawn Bailer and Gabriel Lim scored 19, 12 and nine points respectively in the rout.
For West Demerara, Osaffa Chapman tallied eight points. In another fixture, NATI downed Christianburg/Wismar 50-47.
Kadeem Dover top scored for the Berbicians with 30 points and eight rebounds while Gevon Schultz added 10 points and seven rebounds.
For the Lindeners, Kobe Tappin battled to 25 points and seven rebounds while Jonathan Copeland supported with 10 points and 12 rebounds.
Similarly, Berbice High edged Georgetown Technical Institute 28-26. Rickford Blair recorded 15 points in the win, with Keron Cort the next best scorer with six points.
For GTI, Ricardo Adamson and Israel Yaw bagged eight and six points each. Also, Marian Academy battled past St. Stanislaus College 46-42, after regulation time saw a 32-32 finish.
Jether Harris led the Carifesta Avenue outfit with 23 points while Josiah Daniels added 13 points. For St. Stanislaus, Yhuton Bobb and Omario Ganeshdin scored 13 and 11 points respectively.
In other results, the Bishops’ High edged Bartica Secondary 55-52 in overtime. The score was tied at 46 at the end of regulation time. Shemar Greaves scored 18 points while Lamon Friday and Royden Glasgow added 12 and 11 points each for Bishops’ High.
For Bartica, Emmanuel Atherley contributed 15 points and four rebounds while Linden Adams added 12 points and nine rebounds.
Mackenzie High defeated Chase Academy 48-39. Shemar Savory amassed 16 points and nine rebounds for the winner while Wong Ming added eight points and 10 rebounds.
For Chase Academy, Jamal Nicholas tallied a double-double of 12 points and 14 rebounds.
Meanwhile, Kwakwani and St. Joseph’s High gained walkovers from Comprehensive Secondary and Linden Technical Institute respectively.
