Probe ongoing into teen’s fatal accident at Tuschen

Investigations into the fatal accident at Tuschen, East Bank Essequibo public road which claimed the life of a 17-year old are still ongoing according to Commander of ‘C’ Division, Edmond Cooper.

Speaking to Stabroek News via telephone yesterday he explained that they are in the process of taking statements from the parties who are involved in the accident.

He also stated that they are awaiting the results of an autopsy which is scheduled for today and the policeman  who was involved in the accident remains under close arrest.

It is unclear when charges will be instituted as investigators will have to seek legal advice.

The deceased teen, Azeez Mohamed, of Lot 63 Ocean Gar-dens, Meten-meer-Zorg, West Coast Demerara, was struck down while crossing the road during the wee hours of Sunday morning.

Police said at about 12:50 am on Sunday, a car bearing registration number PNN 7853, struck Mohamed as he was in the process of crossing the road.

The vehicle was being driven by a police constable from Linden, who is stationed on the West Demerara.

Investigations revealed that the car was travelling west along the southern carriageway when Mohamed ran across the road from the northern carriageway. The rank alleged that Mohamed ran into his path and as a result, was struck down.

The victim was picked up and rushed to the Leonora Diagnostic Centre in an unconscious state where he died while receiving treatment, the police said
