A 28-year-old vendor was granted bail by a city court yesterday after he denied a marijuana possession charge.
Akeem Lorde was read the charge by Principal Magistrate Faith McGusty at the Georgetown Magis-trates’ Court 5.
The accused pleaded not guilty to the allegation, which stated that on July 2, he was at Stabroek Market, Georgetown, with 22 grammes of marijuana.
Attorney George Thomas represented Lorde and told the magistrate that the narcotic was not found on his client. He explained that there were several others present when the illicit substance was found, however, only his client was arrested and charged.
Police Prosecutor Annalisa Brummell did not give further details on the matter. She did, however, request that Lorde lodge his passport and report to the Brickdam Police Station.
Magistrate McGusty granted Lorde $40,000 bail and adjourned the matter until July 24.
