The prosecution yesterday closed its case against the cabbage farmer accused of fatally stabbing 18-year-old David Toney at the Timehri Docks in April.
Prosecutor Neville Jeffers closed the police’s case against Rickland Bovell when the inquiry continued before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan in Georgetown.
This was done after the cross-examination of Clive Bovell by the defendant’s attorney. Jeffers also told the court that the police were unable to have their final witness present despite radio messages being sent along with a summons, which was not served on the witness. He, however, requested that the witness be reserved for the High Court if there is a committal.
The proceedings were later adjourned until July 17th, when submissions are expected to be made. The accused is alleged to have committed the crime during an altercation at the Timehri docks over payment for loading produce onto a truck.
