A labourer of Annandale, East Coast Demerara was last night killed in a hit-and-run accident.
The dead man has been identified as Leon Fung-a-Fat 31, of 162 Annandale South.
Stabroek News gathered that the man was struck down sometime after 9.30 pm on the Annandale Railway Embankment Road.
A woman told this newspaper that she and a friend were passing through the village when they noticed the large crowd and stopped. Upon stopping, she said the driver recognized Fung-a-Fat and offered assistance to transport him to the hospital. She noted that he was lying in the corner of the road with his face down.
The woman said Fung-a-Fat was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital.
The man’s mother told Stabroek News that she was sleeping when a relative woke her up and told her that Leon had been involved in an accident.
The woman said by the time she arrived at the hospital her son had been pronounced dead. She said that her son sustained head injuries.
Fung-a-Fat’s body is currently at the Georgetown Public Hospital Mortuary awaiting an autopsy.
Police have launched an investigation.
